Hundreds of studies have confirmed spirulina’s powerhouse status. It has 60-70% complete protein, meaning it has all 8 essential amino acids and 10 non-essential ones that support good health
Spirulina is highly digestible, protects the immune system, aids in mineral absorption and reduces cholesterol. It comes originally from warm alkaline lakes in Africa and Central and South America and was consumed by Aborigines of those places (for ex. the Aztecs) for centuries, verifying its safety and healthful effects on the body.
But why is Spirulina also a tumor cell killer?
According to Balch, it contains concentrations of nutrients “unlike any other single grain, herb, or plant.” Some of its other valuable components include: gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), linoleic acid, arachidonic acid, vitamin B12, iron, nucleic acids RNA & DNA, chlorophyll and phycocyanin, which is found only in blue-green algae and has been shown to increase survival rates in mice with liver cancer. (Balch). The incidence of tumors from went from 87% to 13% in laboratory animals because it reduces the expression of Proteins that increase cellular proliferation. It induced Cancer cell death in 48 hours.
The anti-cancer effects of Sprirulina has been noted (Md Saad et al., 2006) when 150 mgs. per pound body (300 mg per Kg) weight of Spirulina were ingested. Spirulina can be simply added as a powder to your your smoothies or by ingesting it in capsule form. For example, a 200 pound person would ingest 6 teaspoons per day while a smaller framed woman would do well to add 3-4 teaspoons of Spirulina to her diet. One half teaspoon of Spirulina has more anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory power than 5 servings of vegetables. Sprirulina enhances your Immune System and can therefore prevent malignancy.
